Job Summary

The Water Systems Operations Group, Water Quality Section, currently has one (1) opening for a Water Quality Technician III in the Water Purification Unit located at Metropolitan’s Water Quality Laboratory in La Verne, CA.  This position will also require frequent travel to various District facilities, with primary travel to the Regional Recycled Water Advanced Purification Center in Carson, CA. 

JOB SUMMARY
The Water Quality Technician III will assist with the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Regional Recycled Water Advanced Water Purification Center Demonstration Plant, in support of applied research studies. In this position, you will apply specialized electrical and electronic skills, mechanical and plant operational skills, as well as use independent judgment to perform job duties.

As the Water Quality Technician III, you will conduct water quality sampling, analyses, and data reporting to support applied research studies. You will perform predictive maintenance to determine equipment wear and anticipate future equipment and/or maintenance needs to enhance process reliability; you will also perform complex preventive and corrective maintenance on water treatment equipment and processes. You will plan and coordinate maintenance activities, including receiving chemical deliveries and vendor coordination. You will procure, install, test, maintain and troubleshoot all new equipment, instrumentation, control systems, and automation systems to support water quality applied research platforms, including necessary Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition components. You will also provide emergency response to ensure continuous operation of water quality demonstration and pilot plants, including on-call support during off-work hours.

JOB DUTIES

  1. May develop technical training materials.

  2. Conducts analyses and investigations of water quality issues, prepares reports and makes recommendations. 

  3. Conducts water quality studies, tests, inspections and research.

  4. Maintains water quality related databases and records.

  5. Interacts with outside entities to exchange information and addresses water quality issues; escalates unresolved issues. 

  6. Assists with developing and administering professional services agreements.

  7. May participate on a project team.

  8. Operates and maintains research facilities and equipment.

  9. Provides emergency response.
