                                                CONTROL SYSTEMS TEAM MANAGER IV – DESERT REGION
The Water Systems Operations Group, Water Treatment Section has one (1) opening for a Team Manager IV in the Desert Region Unit supervising the Control Systems Team. This position is located at the Gene Pumping Plant Facility.

Under administrative direction of the Unit or Section Manager, provides supervisory, management and support services to a team. The Team Manager will have specialized skills relative to the assigned area of responsibility.
The Team Manager will be responsible for managing a multi-skilled team of electronic, communication, and instrumentation technicians, and high voltage testmen who have technical knowledge of digital electronics, logic circuits, computers, and electronic control systems. The Team will be responsible for the maintenance, testing and repair of SCADA systems, instrumentation, meters, and water quality monitoring equipment located throughout Metropolitan’s Desert Region and associated distribution system. The Team Manager will be responsible for coordinating all maintenance activities with the other Team Managers within the Desert Region and the Conveyance and Distribution System Sections. Additionally, will serve as a member of the Incident Command System as part of the Emergency Response Program and perform after-hours stand-by emergency response.

Job Summary


Duties specific to this position:
• Manage and act as technical advisor for the more difficult phase of maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of electronic equipment and digital control systems; determine procedures; and assign and direct the work of team members.
• Perform studies, estimates, reports, and direct field activities in connection with the installation, maintenance, and operation of control system or instrumentation projects. Maintain records and reports.
• Coordinate and initiate maintenance activities with the other Unit Team managers and the Work Planner/Scheduler to ensure that all electronic equipment at the treatment plant and distribution facilities is well maintained and operating correctly.
• Use MAXIMO (Metropolitan’s computerized maintenance management system) effectively to manage and track all maintenance activities.
• Establish maintenance procedures and standards to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable operations.
• Ensure the safety of others by implementing safety training, participating on the Unit Safety Committee, and promptly implementing safety recommendations that result from new regulations, inspections, Event Reviews, or from in house Occupational Safety and Health experts.
• Provide accurate, timely, and thorough communication to other members of the management team on issues related to potential operational upsets, regulatory violations, and employee safety.
• Ensure staff receives mandatory and non-mandatory training provided by Human Resources; Develop training plans for skill development and enhancement of the team’s members, provide cross training opportunities, and develop team succession plan.
• Ensure team provides outstanding service to internal and external customers.
•Participate and respond upon activation of the Incident Command Center.

• Accept after-hours standby responsibilities (operational and emergency response).


The functions of this classification include, but are not limited to:
1. Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinate staff in accordance with Metropolitan’s policies and procedure.
2. Effectively recommends personnel actions related to recruitment and selection, grievances and disciplinary policies and procedures, performance, leaves of absence, work schedules and assignments.
3. Performs analytical work for a team in a specialized field and coordinates teamwork activity to achieve effective results.
4. Makes budget, personnel and related resource requirement recommendations for the area supervised based upon anticipated workload and production capability of the team.
5. Gathers, analyzes and compiles data to prepare narrative and statistical reports on team activities.
6. Provides input into the development and modification of policies, methods and procedures.
7. Provides explanation of policies and procedures and working structure of the team to external and internal customers; drafts detailed responses about regulations, procedures, activities and status of projects.
8. Represents the team and Metropolitan at various meetings.
9. Exercises responsibility and accountability for the technical soundness of the work that is supervised.
10. Performs other related duties as required.
